Bio:
Roxanne Sauriol (b. 1987, Montreal, Canada) is a self-taught painter whose
practice centers on contemporary portraiture, with a particular focus on the
female figure as both subject and archetype. Active since 2008, Sauriol has
developed a distinctive body of work that combines technical rigor with symbolic
intensity, her canvases often serving as autobiographical reflections framed
through universal feminine narratives.
Her process begins with the development of conceptual frameworks, followed by
the photographic staging of street-cast models who become conduits for her
explorations of identity, resilience, and the complexities of womanhood. These
images evolve into intricately rendered oil paintings that balance vivid surface
realism with enigmatic undertones, situating her practice between personal
confession and cultural commentary.
Since the birth of her daughter in 2008, Sauriol has pursued her artistic career
with singular focus, building an international exhibition record and securing
placement of her works in private, corporate, and institutional collections. The
female form, recurring, mutable, and allegorical, remains the vessel through
which she maps an ongoing dialogue between autobiography and collective
experience.
